The new Chief of Police for Saint John wants better guns for his force.
Chief John Bates says the current guns will work for the next year.
He says the firearms now are roughly 20 years old.
Bates says there have been instances where members of the police have had to dispose of an injured animal, pulled the trigger and heard a “click”, because the gun didn’t work.
He says when he heard about the age of the guns, updating firearms became one of his main priorities.
