There has been talk for years in the city of putting meters in cabs and now it might happen if the proposed new tax bylaw is approved by Common Council.
Adoption of meters will cost you more to ride a cab in the city. If you go from the uptown to the Airport, it will cost 40 dollars with meters as opposed to 28 or 30 dollars under the zone system.
There would be a $3.00 drop off charge as soon as you get in the cab and then you would be charged $1.64 a kilometer after that which is less than what’s charged in Halifax but more than in Toronto.
Meanwhile, Council has also received a letter from retired Lieutenent-General Lou Cuppens complaining about the poor state of cabs in the city and the scruffy drivers.
