Tension continues to build between many “For Profit” daycare Operators in the province and the Early Childhood Development Minister.
Serge Rouselle sent out a letter to all daycare Operators this week, clarifying what is being done in the way of funding, and asked that the letters be posted and handed out to all parents.
Owner/Operator for Home With a Heart Daycare Janice Sutherland says it’s insulting.
She says, “He wants the public to think that he is giving out all of this money, and that we are just whining, and everybody is very upset.”
In the letter, Rouselle says the Operators of the daycares will no longer to receive the wage top up as a part of the Quality Improvement Funding Support program, but this does not affect the other employees.
Sutherland says this is unfair, and feels that the Minister needs to find out how a daycare really works.
Sutherland says, “I have to be a cook, I have a teacher, I have to be a bus driver, I have to make sure that regulations are carries out and make sure that my staff are up to date, and I have to be ready to step into anyone’s shoes.”
She says Operators do a lot more than just run the daycares, and not being eligible for the wage top up is unfair.
