The ex-husband of Richard Oland’s mistress testifying at the second-degree murder trial of Dennis Oland that he had nothing to do with Richard Oland’s death and that he only learned they had been in a relationship in October of 2012 when his lawyer showed him a newspaper which stated there had been an affair.
Jiri Sedlacek, who is a former executive of footwear company Bata, testifying that he never suspected that his then-wife was cheating on him. On July 6, 2011, which is the day before Richard Oland’s body was discovered in his investment firm office, Sedlacek says that he was on Darlings Island which is where his home was located.
Defence lawyer Alan Gold cross-examining Sedlacek, saying, “if you did have something to do with Richard Oland’s death, would you come to court and tell the jury that you did? Of course not.” Sedlacek again stating that he had nothing to do with Richard Oland’s death.
Gold saying, “if you had found out about the affair you would have been furious” with Sedlacek responding, “I probably would have been very upset.”
Diana Sedlacek testified in the morning. The defence had no questions for her.
The trial resumes at the Saint John Law Courts on Monday at 9:30am.
