The heart of Canada’s oil sands industry is near the devastating wildfires which forced tens of thousands to flee nearby Fort McMurray.
Many of the evacuees headed north and oil sands facilities have opened up their work camps to provide shelter.
Senior petroleum analyst Dan McTeague says the major producers in the region have stopped production.
“Operations have been temporarily suspended or curtailed while they getting better read on which direction the fire is going to go,” he notes.
McTeague says the stoppage will not likely have an impact on the industry since Canada already has an adequate inventory of oil.
