Constable Dan olde Damink of the Saint John police was given the gold commendation award for his act of bravery in March of this year.
Police Chief John Bates says cst. olde Damink was able to save a man’s life in March after he jumped off the Reversing Falls Bridge.
Bates says the man survived the fall and cst. olde Damink was in the area and was able to respond immediately.
He says Constable olde Damink went down a 80 ft cliff and hurt himself, but still managed to get in the water to save the man.
Bates says olde Damink removed his own coat to keep the man warm.
He says the coast guard was then able to lift them both to safety.
