A shocking turn of events in Fort McMurray is making life very stressful for a couple in Saint John.
Bob Bonner tells us his daughter Kendra lives in Fort McMurray and was forced to throw some belongings in a garbage bag and head north.
He says she and the remaining 29,000 were told to leave in a mandatory evacuation.
He says the only way out is towards the oil fields–125 kilometers north and it’s bumper to bumper. Everything changed at 4pm Alberta time today when the changed directions and the fire jumped one highway burning on both sides.
Bonner’s son, Nick, also lives in Fort Mac but was returning from a vacation when he heard of the wildfires. He won’t be able to get past Edmonton now since flights can’t land in Fort McMurray.
My thoughts are with people affected by the fire in Fort McMurray tonight. Stay safe and remember to follow evacuation orders. #ymmfire
