Common Councillor and Mayoral candidate Bill Farren is defending the major change that’s coming at the end of May with taxis in the city. That’s when the cabs will have meters to determine how much you pay.
Many of the taxi drivers are uneasy about metering.
Farren was a member of the committee that reviewed the taxi bylaw. He claims taxi riders will benefit because the short runs will be cheaper than they are now.
The city says the meter rates have been calculated to be in line with what’s charged in other places that are a similar size to Saint John.
