A crippling earthquake has rocked Nepal and devastated parts of its capital city.
CNN is reporting the 7.9 earthquake near Kathmandu has killed more than 1,100 people and rescue efforts are still underway.
It’s not known if any Canadians were injured or have been killed.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper says he was saddened by the news of the devastating earthquake.
Harper says Canada is ready to respond to the tragedy.
Meantime, UNICEF is preparing to send emergency supplies to Nepal to help survivors of the devastating earthquake.
The humanitarian organization will deliver water purification tablets, hygiene kits and nutritional supplies.
The 7.9 earthquake has destroyed buildings, cell phone networks are down and power is out in many areas.
Donations are being accepted through UNICEF.
