Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is only one part of combating climate change according to Andrew Holland of the Nature Conservancy. That will be the message delivered to the recently formed provincial climate change committee by the Nature Conservancy.
He says big storms are happening right now and their effects have to be mitigated. Holland says wetlands, for instance, act like a sponge to absorb rising water levels and forests store carbon while releasing oxygen into the atmosphere.
The Nature Conservancy is hoping the committee doesn’t get sidetracked by the controversy over whether a carbon tax will be imposed with an increase in the gas tax.
