More than 300 jobs are being eliminated in the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
That was announced as the Education Minister released budget estimates of $1.1 billion dollars yesterday for educational services and programs for students and preschoolers in 2015-16.
Serge Rouselle says, “I know that people talk a lot about cuts, but people have to remember that since 2000, even with less students in the province, we have still put more money into the budget for programs.
The job cuts include 249 teaching positions, 21 in school district offices and 32 at the central office in Fredericton. Rouselle says some of those positions were contract positions, which have now ended.
