22 government-assisted Syrian refugees arrived in Saint John on Monday bringing the total to 429.
President of the YMCA Shilo Boucher telling Common Council at its latest meeting that most of the families are now in the process of transitioning from their six-week resettlement process. Boucher says while it’s been a tremendous effort to settle this many people the work is just beginning.
“We have a lot of work in terms of what our city can do, what the Y will continue to do, what other community partners such as the HDC and our Newcomer Resource centre can do to ensure they’re here and they’re integrated and they feel part of Saint John,” says Boucher.
In terms of what we can expect going forward, Boucher says we can definitely expect at least another 70 though she expects more than that.
