The water, sanitary, and storm sewer renewal on Prince William Street in St Stephen is a go.
St. Stephen Town Council awarding the contract to the lowest bid from, Fairville Construction of Saint John, to do the work.
The entire project will cost $2,927,000, but Council dropped that price to $2,611,000 for now.
CAO Derek O’Brien tells us, “What we’re doing is we are looking at it being a shorter run, we’re not going to go as far as we wanted to. It’ll be about 250 metres short of the planned completion of the work. It gives us an opportunity to be looking for other dollars that we can direct in that area, so that we can continue.”
O’Brien says the deleted work is only for paving, for the section between the SPCA and the Dennis Strem Bridge, but the water main will continue to the end as planned.
He says now that the work has been awarded officially, the contractor will be given notice, and the work should begin shortly.
Deputy Mayor Allan MacEachern noted that the money to complete the final 250 metres of paving would probably be ready by time the work needs to be done.
