Longtime Rothesay councillor and lawyer Pat Gallagher-Jette is running to replace outgoing mayor Bill Bishop who has served in that role for 15 years.
Gallagher-Jette tells us the first thing she would like to do is to try and restore some trust between the citizens of Rothesay and town hall, believing there has been an erosion of that trust.
“We have not done a good job at all of making people believe that we care about making decisions where they are done in an open way,” she says.
She also says a high cost of living in a bedroom community isn’t necessary and if taxes can be kept reasonable and there is careful spending then Rothesay can be made into an even more desirable place.
“We don’t want to make it unaffordable by getting ourselves into massive multi-million-dollar projects, the burden of which lands square on the taxpayer,” says Gallagher-Jette.
Deputy mayor of Rothesay Dr. Nancy Grant is the other candidate running for mayor.
