The Financial and Consumer Services Commission of New Brunswick is reminding businesses to report any unclaimed property.
This effort is part of the mandatory annual reporting period under the province’s Unclaimed Property Act.
Unclaimed property includes money and other monetary assets that their owners have forgotten.
These funds may be held by businesses or organizations that cannot locate the rightful owners.
The Unclaimed Property Act ensures that consumers can reclaim what is rightfully theirs.
Marissa Sollows, the Commission’s Director of Communications and Public Affairs said the Commission has reunited New Brunswickers with over $2.1 million in forgotten funds since launching more than a year ago.
“To continue reuniting New Brunswickers with their money, we require businesses to report any unclaimed property on their books,” Sollows said.
The Commission has received reports of over $35 million in unclaimed property from hundreds of businesses to date.
“With increased awareness of the program, we are anticipating more money and monetary property will be reported again this year,” Sollows added.
Sollows encourages businesses to check their records and submit any unclaimed property to the program by March 31.
