Ring in the new year with a bracing dip and a generous gesture during Polar Dip with a Purpose at New River Beach.
This annual event is organized by Jane Crawford and is scheduled for 3 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
Proceeds from this year’s event will support the New Brunswick chapter of the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
“Heart & Stroke New Brunswick is a cause close to many, including my friend Amy and myself,” Crawford said.
“It’s an issue that impacts our families and many residents of New Brunswick.”
The event has previously supported Crohn’s and Colitis New Brunswick, and the Alzheimer Society in memory of Crawford’s father, who recently passed away.
Crawford suggests first-timers stay warm in their vehicles and remember that they’re in and out of the water in less than a minute.
“I think it’s natural for people to be nervous, especially if it’s their first time,” she said.
“But even myself, who has done it for over 10 years, I still get nervous on the drive there,”
Participants are encouraged to arrive early and bring warm clothes after your frosty dive.
No need to pre-register — just show up at the Carrying Cove part of New River Beach before 3 p.m.
For those who can’t attend but want to support the cause, donations can be made to Heart and Stroke New Brunswick.
