Safety concerns due to weather has forced the cancellation of the final Lancaster Santa Claus parade.
The 20th edition of the daytime parade in west Saint John was scheduled to take place on Saturday.
But organizers made the decision to cancel the event late Friday due to rain and wind in the forecast.
“With the forecast we have had numerous participants cancel, and we don’t want to have any one injured or get sick as a result of this parade,” organizers said in a social media post.
This was to be the final year for the parade, which is one of two holiday parades in Saint John.
Organizers said interest has waned in recent years and many entries now participate in the nearby Grand Bay-Westfield parade.
