The anticipation is building, for Kylie and Kevin Blackman of Moncton.
They spent over 17 hours on the road from Moncton, New Brunswick to Toronto, Ontario to see Taylor Swift.
“It all started in August 2023, when the tickets first went on sale. There was a lottery pool to try and get tickets. We scrambled and scrambled, but we didn’t actually get them ourselves, but my niece ended up getting a set of tickets,” Kevin told our newsroom.
They hit the road on Wednesday, to ensure they got to Toronto in time for Friday night’s concert. Kevin they wanted to make sure they allowed themselves plenty of time, in case they ran into any issues.
But the plan to drive to Toronto didn’t come into play until a month ago.
“The price of flights was absolutely ridiculous, $300 to $500 one way, per person, and I just decided to make a road trip. My daughter is a bigger Swiftie than I am, but she did a great job cruising on the 401 in Ontario.”
Kevin and his daughter Kylie took shifts for the long drive.
They arrived Thursday evening and already made plans for the day of the show.
“We’ll most likely head down early on Friday, maybe hit the Hockey Hall of Fame. Kylie mentioned she wanted to climb up the CN Tower, so we plan on taking the experience in, and then most importantly, hitting the big show at 7 o’clock,” Kevin said.
He didn’t have the perfect outfit picked out, but 18-year-old Kylie plans to dress all in sparkles for the show.
Kevin, who is now referring to himself as Papa Swiftie, says Kylie has been a major fan of Taylor Swift since she came out as an artist. The last concert the two of them went to together was in 2012 when he took her to see Justin Bieber.
He adds she is certainly the envy of a lot of her friends, and the tickets could have been sold ten times over, but Kylie was having none of that!
Seventeen hours is a long drive, but Kevin says it has been all worth it, “The weather has been fantastic, and we couldn’t wait to get to the big city for the big show. It’s gonna be awesome. I can’t wait to hear, ‘Are you ready for it?’ and Kylie is eager to hear her favourite song, ‘Fearless’.
