A night filled with candy, creepy costumes and time with friends is upon us.
But police want to ensure that everyone gets home safely on this Halloween night.
Drivers need to be extra vigilant, particularly in residential areas, where there will be more people out and about.
Motorists should proceed with extra caution when entering and exiting driveways, backing up or coming around corners.
Trick-or-treaters should add reflective tape to their costumes or carry a flashlight with them in order to be more visible.
Always use sidewalks and crosswalks whenever possible and avoid criss-crossing back and forth across the street.
Other Halloween safety tips from police include:
- Trick-or-treat in well-known areas with an adult. If you are old enough to be on your own, stay with a group of friends.
- Stay in well-lit areas and only visit well-lit houses.
- Watch for cars pulling out of driveways and backing up.
- Use caution around animals you do not know.
- Have your treats inspected by an adult before eating them so they can throw away any spoiled, unwrapped or suspicious items.
