The East Coast Elite Baseball Academy is currently recruiting student-athletes for a chance to get a college scholarship.
The academy was founded by Aaron McKenna, who is a fan and player and wants to give kids in New Brunswick a chance to play baseball.
McKenna said academy players will have the chance to play in the New England Prep School Baseball League (NEPSBL) due to the high amount of scouting from colleges across the United States and having affiliations with the Major League Baseball (MLB) programs.
“Taking kids down to that area to play with the United States market allows the kids to showcase their opportunities to people they want to showcase them to,” said McKenna.
“There are baseball academies in Ontario that we’ve been in talks with to play exhibition games and home tournaments.
“However we’re closer to the New England teams than we are to the Ontario teams, and so the American dollar makes it a little bit cheaper and more feasible to travel and play in Maine and Massachusetts.”
McKenna has partnered up with Derek Wilson, a former baseball player and gym owner with recruitment and coaching.
Officials say players selected to the teams will be required to participate in an off-season training program as well as partake in mini-camps in Fredericton.
One of McKenna’s long-term goals is to gain recognized school status playing in the New England Prep School Baseball League and volunteer with the Southern New Brunswick Little League developing teams to win the Canadian Little League Championships and compete at the Little League World Series.
