Three popular Saint John swimming areas have been closed to the public until further notice.
City officials said Wednesday that the closure of Lily Lake, Fisher Lake and Little River Reservoir was due to high bacteria levels.
In a news release, the city said a high sample of E. coli was detected during a recent test by Public Health.
“[The] swimming areas will remain closed until deemed safe by health officials,” said the release.
Warning signs have been posted at all three locations. Lifeguards will remain at Lily Lake and Little River Reservoir to warn the public and ensure visitor safety.
This is not the first time this summer that Saint John swimming areas have been forced to close.
Lily Lake and Tucker Park were closed for several days earlier in July for the same reason. They reopened on July 10.
