New Brunswick is seeking more information before considering banning TikTok on government-issued phones.
The federal government announced earlier this week that it would block the popular app on phones given to public service employees.
It stems from concerns surrounding the app, which is owned by a Chinese company, that data and information is being passed on to the Chinese government
In response to questions from our newsroom, we received a one-line response from the communications director for Finance and Treasury Board, which encompasses the Office of the Chief Information Officer.
“Right now we are connecting with the Government of Canada to better understand their analysis,” Alycia Bartlett said in an email.
Nova Scotia has since moved to ban the app on government-issued phones while Ontario is considering a similar ban.
