Mounties say two people are in custody after an early-morning shooting in the Fredericton area that prompted an emergency alert.
RCMP and the Fredericton Police Force responded to a report of shots fired on Leafwood Drive in the Hanwell and Pine Grove Mini Home Community around 4:30 a.m. Friday.
Two people were taken to the hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Fredericton police arrested one person at the scene, and police said other people who were believed to be involved fled in a vehicle.
A number of residents in the mini-home community were evacuated but were allowed to return home around 10:30 a.m.
Mounties issued an Alert Ready message around 10:45 a.m., saying the “armed and dangerous” suspects were last seen in the Oromocto area in a blue Honda Civic.
At around 12:15 p.m., police said they located the vehicle off Route 2 in the Longs Creek area, southwest of Fredericton, and arrested a 22-year-old man at the scene. The alert was cancelled about 15 minutes later.
“Residents may return to normal activities,” police said in an updated alert issued just before 12:30 p.m.
RCMP Cpl. Hans Ouellette said the investigation remains active and they ask anyone with information to contact RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
