Furnace oil prices took an unexpected jump in New Brunswick on Tuesday night.
The New Brunswick Energy and Utilities Board normally adjusts prices on Wednesday night.
But the board invoked its rarely-used interrupter clause specifically for furnace oil prices.
As a result, the maximum price for furnace oil climbed by 5.9 cents to $1.602 per litre.
Gas, diesel, and propane prices remain unchanged. They will be adjusted at midnight Wednesday night.
Currently, regular self-serve is selling for a maximum price of $1.589 per litre, while the most you are paying for diesel is $1.726 per litre.
Meanwhile, officials in Nova Scotia used their interrupter clause Tuesday night to raise the price of diesel by more than six cents.
It is now selling for between $1.665 and $1.708 per litre, depending on where you are in the province.
