The federal Leader of the NDP made a stop in New Brunswick today.
While in Bathurst earlier today, Jagmeet Singh was asked about the Canadian border and its reopening.
He believes we should continue to closely monitor the situation with COVID-19, “There are some really troubling things going on with the increase in the numbers of the Delta Variant. COVID cases are going up, so we have to be very careful and pay close attention. We want people to be able to live their lives and move freely, but we need to make sure Canadians are kept safe and we need to find that balance.”
He says a lot of border towns are currently hurting due to the pandemic, so the reopening is a positive thing.
But he adds, we must continue to Public guidelines as we monitor the situation.
Election call speculation was also asked about. NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh says if there is a federal election call, his party will be ready.
He says they currently have over 100 candidates nominated, and is confident there will be more.
But he doesn’t feel it has to happen right now, while COVID-19 is still a concern.
“You’d think in a pandemic that the Liberals would think the same way as well. It doesn’t look like that is the case. It looks like they are more interested in power and not doing what is in the interest of Canadians. I think for various reasons, we should be focussing on the help that people need and not going to an election.”
Singh feels Parliament has been working the way Canadians want it to work.
