A Grand Bay-Westfield woman is giving back after winning a national contest focused on Canadian healthcare workers in the pandemic.
Maggie Coffin Prowse found out about the contest with HealthPRO through her brother, Mark.
Coffin Prowse learned a lot about art from her mom but, it took the pandemic to pick it all up again.
“It was a way to transition from work to family where I work in my own home. It was a great way to sort of parcel off what happened through the day and move into being with my husband and kids,” Coffin Prowse said.
Her painting, I See You, won HeathPRO’s Faces of Canadian healthcare contest.
She said after more than a year of painting, what it means to her has changed.
“Absolutely! I have done some horrible pieces,” Coffin Prowse said with a laugh. “And I love my friends and family for not calling me out on that because it kind of allowed me to keep trying new things and new techniques.”
Coffin Prowse declared early that if she won, the $25,000 prize money would go to Bobby’s Hospice.
Brad Adams, executive director of Hospice Greater Saint John, was thrilled to learn Coffin Prowse had selected them as her charity of choice.
“Our ability to fundraise has been severely disrupted by COVID-19, so receiving this generous donation will have a massive impact on our organization! The staff, volunteers, patients and families of Bobby’s Hospice congratulate Maggie for sharing her creativity to positively influence our community. We also extend our appreciation to HealthPRO for facilitating such an impactful contest and substantial donation during these trying times,” Adams said.
