The airline industry is expected to begin ramping up again this summer as pandemic restrictions are gradually lifted across the country.
Travel agent Lynn Gaudet says the airlines have been talking to industry representatives over the last 15 months about how they are keeping passengers safe.
“They’ve put on all kinds of information sessions for us to make us feel comfortable about getting back on their planes and putting our passengers on their aircraft,” said Gadget.
Meanwhile, vaccine passports will likely become part of international travel in the near future.
Ottawa is discussing vaccination documentation, possibly in digital form, which many countries of the European Union have already adopted.
Gaudet says vaccine passports for other types of shots are already common in parts of the world, citing a previous trip to Africa.
“We needed to have proof of having yellow fever vaccines to go from Kenya to Tanzania. I never questioned what or why did we need this, it was just a pre-requisite,” she said.
While Ottawa is talking about a vaccine passport for international travel, Manitoba recently announced its own passport to fully vaccinated residents for interprovincial travel.
