Phone service has been restored throughout the Maritimes following a network issue which affected 911 service across the region.
“We’re happy to confirm that service is now restored,” said Bell Aliant in a tweet posted just before 10:50 a.m. Wednesday.
“Phone lines have been restored. 911 lines are now functioning normally,” tweeted New Brunswick RCMP about 10 minutes earlier.
Several police forces in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island reported problems with 911 calls not getting through.
Earlier in the morning, Bell Aliant said it was experiencing a “network issue” impacting wireless and landline voice services for some customers in Atlantic Canada.
“Our team is investigating and we’ll update as soon as possible,” the company said in a tweet at 10:25 a.m. Wednesday.
Our newsroom tried to reach out via a Bell Aliant phone line but received a busy signal or a message that says “all circuits are currently busy”.
The issue also appeared to affect other phone services providers.
