One person has died and three others were injured after an early morning house fire in the town of Rothesay.
Police and fire crews were called to Bartlett Road, located off Rothesay Road, shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday.
“When officers arrived, the house was fully engulfed in flames,” said Insp. Anika Becker of the Kennebecasis Regional Police Force in a news release Sunday afternoon.
The Kennebecasis Valley Fire Department said the occupants of the home were alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm.
When firefighters arrived on scene, three adults had already escaped with the help of a neighbour and police, while a fourth person was unaccounted for.
“The three adults were transported by Ambulance New Brunswick paramedics to the hospital with minor injuries while the fourth occupant, a family friend of the occupants, died at the scene,” said the fire department in a news release.
The Canadian Red Cross said it is helping the owners of the home with emergency lodging, food, clothing purchases and other needs.
Rothesay Road was closed for several hours while crews were on the scene of the fire, which remains under investigation.
