More than 40 swimmers and kayakers will try to cross the Northumberland Strait between Cape Jourimain and Borden-Carleton in the ninth annual Big Swim event.
The swimmers are paired with support kayakers during the 14-kilometre journey, which will take about three to eight hours.
Those taking part are from all walks of life and include four swimmers from New Brunswick and an Olympian. Previous swimmers have ranged in age from 12 to 70.
The swimmers will enter the water around 9 a.m. Sunday at Cape Jourimain, near the base of the Confederation Bridge, but organizers say the start time will depend on the tides.
Money raised from the Big Swim will support Brigadoon Village in Nova Scotia, a non-profit camp for children and youth with chronic conditions. This year’s goal is $150,000.
