The addition of Air Canada Rouge at the Saint John Airport will shave 35 minutes off one early morning flight to Toronto.
Service is scheduled to begin on October 27th.
Jacques Fournier is the director of Airport Commercial Development at the Saint John Airport.
“It’s an Airbus 319, it comes in with 136 seats. It’s a bigger aircraft. More comfortable.” Fournier said.
He says these changes will make it easier for business people to travel to Toronto and back in a single day.
“We are getting a 5:50 flight in the morning which will be jet service. It’s 35 minutes faster than the Q400.” Fournier told our newsroom.
Starting this fall, all @AirCanada flights from #YSJ to #Toronto will be operated by @AirCanadaRouge. They'll be replacing our Q400s with the Airbus A319, which means more room, shorter flight times, and a quieter cabin.👏

It will also allow passengers leaving Saint John more opportunity to connect to other destinations in Toronto.
Fournier says this flight will hit all the connecting banks in Toronto.
“The way that Air Canada operates is they have eight major airports in Canada and all the spokes feed the hub. Saint John is a spoke to Toronto and basically, the bank is where most of the destinations for the United States and Western Canada are scheduled at.” Fournier said.
Fournier says Air Canada is using Rouge all over New Brunswick and he says the airline plans to use the Q400’s for shorter trips in western Canada.
When it comes to his wishlist, Fournier would love to see a fourth daily flight to Montreal during the busy summer season.
“Saint John is growing. We hit 282,000 passengers last year. We’ll keep on talking to Air Canada about how we can improve service.” Fournier said.
