Almost 1,000 appointments for blood donation at Canadian Blood Services need to be filled during the first week of July.
Clinics are being held in Saint John, Fredericton and Moncton on Canada Day.
Peter MacDonald of Canadian Blood Services says they rely on less than four per cent of the population who actually donate blood when one in two Canadians are eligible to donate.
“If there are listeners who have not donated in some time or new donors who would like to make a real difference in their community, this is truly a real opportunity where we are looking for folks to step up,” MacDonald said.
In order to prepare, donors are asked to hydrate and eat before they come in to give blood.
As of Thursday, 55 per cent of the available appointments for a mobile clinic in Fredericton were unfilled.
It being held on Canada Day at the STU Conference Centre at 368 Forest Hill Road. There are openings after 5:15 p.m.
Saint John has a clinic from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 400 University Avenue. Moncton also has openings at 500 Mapleton Road.
