Matt Kinnie is a 35 year old para-cycler from Riverview.
Over the weekend, he placed first and second in a pair of races at the AlterGo sport event in Montreal.
AlterGo is the largest annual multi-sport event in Canada and features competitions in over 15 para-sports.
Kinnie says he was very surprised at this weekend’s outcome and couldn’t have asked for better.
Because of his placements, Kinnie can now qualify for national competitions as well as funding.
Now he has to make a choice between going to Peru for the Para Pan-AM games or if he’ll be selected for the world championships in the Netherlands.

He also plans to compete next at the world championship competition in Baie-Comeau, Quebec at the end of the summer.
13 years ago, Kinnie became paralyzed due to a a rock climbing accident.
Having led an active life, he chose to continue participating paraplegic sports.
Kinnie says he’s incredibly grateful for the support he’s received from the community.
