A thorough examination is completed before any water-covered roads in Saint John are re-opened to vehicle traffic.
Some barricades are being lifted in Saint John as floodwaters begin to recede.
Jeff Hussey is the City of Saint John’s Deputy Transportation Commissioner.
“As the waters recede, we will be adjusting the barricades and signage appropriately and doing our pre-inspections and cleaning debris off those roads,” Hussey told reporters in a media briefing on Tuesday.
Hussey says they take the time and visually inspect the roads.
“We are looking for any depressions or indications of a sinkhole or any decay along the edge of the road that could be a safety hazard.”
