Investigations into the deaths of guinea pigs at the Cherry Brook Zoo haven’t fazed Councillor Gary Sullivan.
The provincial SPCA looked into the allegations and suggested charges be laid but crown prosecutors chose not to.
Late last week, Canada’s Accredited Zoos and Aquariums announced their own investigation.
Common Councillor Gary Sullivan hasn’t seen anything yet that has dissuaded him from being a fan of the zoo but, he’s looking forward to CAZA’s report.
“In the absence of a credible organization coming forward after an investigation and releasing a full report to say what they found, it’s sometimes tough
to find out ultimately what happened and what the situation is,” Sullivan said
We asked Sullivan if he feels public backlash against the zoo is fair and he tells us he’s not confident the information a lot of people are operating on is necessarily accurate.
“Which is why I’m hopeful that CAZA comes back fairly quickly with their report and I know it’s tough. It’s more important to get things right then to get things done fast.” Sullivan said.
As for Sunday’s protest outside the zoo, Sullivan called it very ‘Saint John’ because the protest was held in a very peaceful, respectful manner.
