There are at least three people in Saint John who would like to fill a vacancy on Common Council.
Andrew Costin hails from Amherst, Nova Scotia originally but calls Saint John home now where he works as a lawyer.
He tells us the current council has done an excellent job.
“They have identified the structural issues that we have to address, the challenges. The fact that costs are rising, the fact that we have the highest tax rate in the province. Something has to change, there has to be municipal tax reform.” Costin says.
Costin thinks being a lawyer can help in municipal politics because of his strong knowledge of the assessment act and the municipalities act.
The municipal by-election for Ward 3 is coming up May 6th.
It’s needed to fill a seat left open around the horseshoe after Liberal Gerry Lowe was elected provincially back in September.
David Hickey and Brad Mitchell have also said they are running in the by-election.
