Saint John Energy needs to reinvent itself because the current model is not sustainable for the future.
President & CEO Ray Robinson says customers will soon be making wise choices to conserve and use energy more efficiently.
Some customers will soon be generating their own electricity through solar panels, which will bring pressure to the utility’s revenue line.
Robinson says Saint John Energy needs to think of creative ways of replacing some of the lost revenue so it doesn’t impact the rest of the customers.
He says he’s aware that times are changing and says the utility needs to reinvent itself to support and advocate the use of solar panels.
Saint John Energy could explore the idea of starting a solar panel rental program.
Robinson says the old model has served the utility well for over 100 years, but it is not a model that is sustainable for the future.
He says all utilities in North America need to figure out what that new model is.
