A UNB Saint John political scientist is not very surprised the Higgs government chose to bow out of the Francophonie games.
J.P. Lewis says thinks there could be support for cancelling the games in the Moncton area but it might come with a different perspective.
“I would imagine in the Saint John area you had quite a bit of support for this decision. A lot of issues even outside of the language divide come down to very local concerns,” Lewis said.
Lewis says it’s not much of a surprise when you go back to the election campaign and the messages from Blaine Higgs as PC leader around restraint and tightening the budget.
