Mayor Don Darling says he’s very concerned about the trend of vacant buildings going up in flames.
Two buildings have burned in the north end since mid-May and at least one of those fires was intentionally set.
There are about 200 vacant buildings in the city and Darling says they use a prioritized list to figure out which ones need to come down first.
“Green, amber, orange and red, and the red homes are the most serious cases and they’re working through those,” says Darling. “A number of those homes would be prioritized on the list in the north end.”
Darling says he understands residents are concerned and staff are looking through that list to see what can be done in the short term.
