Advocate Issues Report After Child Neglect Case

A report from the Child and Youth Advocate with recommendations after a shocking case of child neglect in Saint John.

Five children between the ages of 6 months to 8 years were living in squalor in a home with fleas and human and animal feces on the walls and floors.

Norm Bossé puts forward four recommendations including making sure social workers understand the legislative powers they have to enter a home and remove children who are believed to be in danger.

Another recommendation is to Support Child Protection social workers by ensuring all training is completed prior to working with clients and to review workloads so that social workers have enough time to work effectively with their clients.
