The success of last summer’s Canada 55 Plus Games in Saint John leading to national recognition.
Event co-chair Barb Curry is a finalist for Sport Event Volunteer of the Year and the event itself is also a finalist for Sport Event of the Year through the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance PRESTIGE Awards.
Victoria Clarke of Discover Saint John tells CHSJ News the event had 500 volunteers and 53 per cent more participants than the average games.
“We had people from all the country. 2300 participants which also means that they brought spouses and other loved ones to observe and participate. It was a heck of a party and a really great showing by Saint John.” Clarke says.
The winners will be announced when the PRESTIGE awards are handed out next month in Ottawa.
