Saint John will host some of Atlantic Canada’s top university swimmers this weekend.
The Atlantic University Sport champsionhips return to the Canada Games Aquatic Centre.
It is the first time Saint John has hosted the premier championship event in seven years.
“This is a great opportunity for the future swimmers of Saint John to get to see the fastest swimmers in Atlantic Canada perform in the most important meet of the season so far,” Ben Tremblay, aquatic manager at the centre, said in a news release.
“We’re hoping for a fast pool, some USports qualifiers, new AUS records, and an exciting battle for the championship banner.”
As a short-course meet, the championships will take place in the aquatic centre’s 25-metre competition pool setup.
Thanks to the facility’s 50-metre pool, athletes will also benefit from designated warm-up and cool-down lanes in the shallow end.
The meet runs from Friday through Sunday.
