Here is your chance to help improve health care for residents across New Brunswick.
The annual Love Your Hospital Radiothon on Country 94 and 97.3 The Wave runs from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday.
For the 13th year, we have partnered with the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation to raise money for the hospital.
“I’m feeling great. There’s always such a buzz in the hospital,” Shannon Hunter, president and CEO of the foundation, said in an interview ahead of the radiothon.
The goal this year is to raise $275,000 to buy two new state-of-the-art apheresis machines for the hospital.
The machines are critical for the New Brunswick stem cell transplant program and cancer treatment.
It takes the patient’s blood and they can either isolate or remove red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets and plasma for medical treatment.
“It’s really critical, particularly for those battling leukemia and rare blood disorder,” said Hunter.
The John T. McMillan Junior Memorial Foundation is this year’s match sponsor and will match all donations up to $100,000.
In addition to raising money, you will hear stories from staff and patients at the hospital throughout the day.
“I will say, year-over-year, we just see the community come out and rally behind the hospital and their health-care providers and they tune in and they share their stories,” added Hunter.
The radiothon has raised more than $2.3 million over the last 12 years.
You can donate to this year’s radiothon through their website or by calling 506-648-7500.
