Patients at one New Brunswick hospital now have access to an innovative medical imaging system.
The Saint John Regional Hospital is the first in Canada to go live with the Omni Legend PET/CT scanner.
It provides detailed images of the body, showing both how tissues and organs look and how they are functioning.
Horizon Health said it helps doctors detect diseases earlier, plan treatments more precisely and monitor progress effectively.
Vice-President Jeff Carter said the technology provides “precise diagnostics and a more comfortable patient experience.”
Officials said this makes the scanner particularly beneficial for patients who may be nervous, in pain or undergoing lengthy treatment regimens.
The technology is already being used at other world-class research institutions including Stanford University in the U.S. and London Health Sciences Centre in Canada.
