Two families in Saint John have recently moved into new affordable homes, thanks to a collaboration between Habitat for Humanity and the provincial government.
Habitat for Humanity New Brunswick receives $70,000 per unit from the provincial government for up to 10 new homes per year.
The New Brunswick Housing Corporation has helped build 17 new affordable homes with Habitat for Humanity since 2023.
Housing Minister David Hickey emphasized the importance of such partnerships.
“We’re working together to make homeownership a reality for more people. These homes will remain affordable for families for the rest of their lives,” said Hickey.
Hickey reiterated their goal to build 30,000 new homes in New Brunswick over six years to improve housing affordability.
Marlee Learmonth, whose family recently moved into one of the new homes, shared her excitement and gratitude.
“We’ve been in the house for a month now, and we’re slowly making it our own. It’s been fantastic,” said Learmonth.
“They’re doing wonderful work and are very easy to work with. For anyone in need, I’d say just reach out. You might qualify and end up in a home like this.”

Perry Kendall, CEO of Habitat for Humanity New Brunswick, highlighted their mission to build more affordable homes.
“We’re thrilled to be making a difference for families like Marlee and AJ. We will continue raising funds to build more homes,” he said.
The organization remains dedicated to providing safe, decent, and affordable homes for families in need.
Kendall mentioned plans to construct 10 additional affordable homes in Saint John over the next few years.
