For many, Friday the 13 is a day to be wary of, but for Mariette Cleven of Maugerville, it was a day of unbelievable luck.
Cleven won $675,000 on a Set for Life scratch ticket she bought on Friday, December 13.
Cleven said she was stunned when she discovered her win and immediately shared the news with her daughter and brother.
Set for Life, a popular game by Atlantic Lottery offers winners a choice between receiving $1,000 a week for 25 years or a lump sum payment of $675,000.
Cleven chose the lump sum option and said it’s an overwhelming feeling of a large amount of money incoming.
“I was a single parent for a really long time and things were tough,” Cleven said.
“The first half of my life was hard, but the next half is going to be really good.”
Cleven said she faced many challenges as a single parent and plans to use her winnings for her children’s education.
She also added that she is fulfilling her travel dreams and looks forward to visiting the Magdalen Islands, Iceland, and the Netherlands.
Cleven, a dedicated nurse, plans to continue working for now but said she might consider retiring earlier than she planned.
Cleven bought her lucky ticket at the Oromocto Plaza Lotto Booth in Oromocto, N.B. The seller will receive a one percent seller’s prize.
