We are now just one week away from another season of senior baseball.
The Saint John Alpines are gearing up to host Fredericton in their homeopener.
President Terre Hunter said among the changes this year is a new head coach.
“Trevor Beach was with us last year as an assistant. Last year’s head coach has moved on and Trevor has agreed to step up, so it’s a really smooth transition,” Hunter said in an interview.
Beach is not only familiar with the team but also the league as a whole, said the president.
In addition to a new head coach, baseball fans will also see some new faces on the diamond.
“Mostly returning players, but we do have a couple of young fellas coming up from the junior team that will play quite a bit with us,” said Hunter.
The Alpines host the Fredericton Royals at Memorial Field on Victoria Day. First pitch is at 2 p.m.
Hunter said most of their home games will be on Thursday evenings and they will have a few weekend doubleheaders.
