Correction: An earlier version of this story stated the Carbon Tax would increase fuel by 17 cents per litre on April 1. When in fact it will rise by just over three cents to 17 cents total. We apologize for this error.
At least seven premiers want Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to halt next month’s increase to the carbon tax.
They say Canadians are already hurting from the high cost of living.
The premiers of New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Ontario and Nova Scotia are asking Ottawa to freeze the planned hike.
Now Liberal Andrew Fury, the premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, has written an open letter to Ottawa.
Furey is asking for a pause – at least until inflation stabilizes.
The aim of the federal tax is to discourage the use of fossil fuels.
It is set to push fuel prices up to more than three cents per litre of gas on April 1st.
I continue to stand up for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians against the federal carbon tax.

I am now asking Ottawa to pause its planned increase to the carbon tax, set for April 1st, as the high cost of living is enough of a burden on families.
