Saint John will be the place to be this weekend for volleyball and basketball fans.
The Port City is hosting not one, but two large tournaments over the next several days.
UNB Saint John will be home to the ACAA volleyball championships starting Friday afternoon.
Ten of the top university teams from across Atlantic Canada will take part in the three-day tournament.
On the women’s side, quarter-final action features St. Thomas University against Holland College and UNB Saint John against Mount Allison University.
Also taking part are the University of King’s College and Mount Saint Vincent University, which received byes to the semifinals on Saturday.
Men’s action has UNB Saint John and Université Sainte-Anne facing off in the first semifinal on Saturday, followed by St. Thomas University and Holland College in the other.
The women’s championship game is at noon on Sunday with the men’s final at 2:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, TD Station will be home to the NBIAA Final 12 basketball tournament, where top girls’ and boys’ teams from all divisions will battle it out for their respective provincial titles.
The action begins Friday evening with Harrison Trimble High and St. Malachy’s Memorial High playing in the AAA girls’ final, followed by St. Malachy’s and Kennebecasis Valley High in the AAA boys’ final.
On Saturday, it is Harvey High and Southern Victoria High in the A girls’ final, John Caldwell and Samuel-de-Champlain in the A boys’ final, St. Stephen High and Rothesay Netherwood in the AA girls’ final, and Fundy Middle & High and École Sainte-Anne in the AA boys’ final.
