The Marianne Limpert Team Championships (MLTC) returns to Saint John for the first time in 10 years.
The Canada Games Aquatic Centre (CGAC) will host the three-day swimming meet with 270 swimmers from all corners of the province in various age groups attending.
The MLTC has not been a long-course event for quite some time and the aquatic centre is the ideal facility to allow for that opportunity once again, boasting the only 50-metre pool in the province.
The event is named after New Brunswick native Marianne Limpert, who has competed in multiple international swimming events, including winning a silver medal at the 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta.
“This tournament really focuses on keeping competition in New Brunswick, representing your team, and really just pushing and motivating your team versus a lot of meets where you kind of just going for yourself, this one really tries to focus on you representing your team and not individual goals,” said aquatics manager Ben Tremblay.
Tremblay said this swim meet has heats in the mornings and finals in the evenings for each age group.
“The top three would get medals, the top eight get ribbons, and at the end of the meet, the team with the most points, most improved from last year, and the highest points in total gets a banner,” Tremblay added.
He also said he coaches swimmers and swam competitively at university. Tremblay said swimming has a lot of benefits, including building a strong work ethic and self-discipline.
“I am extremely excited to host teams from all around the province. This is a great meet to see swimmers represent their teams and race for the banners,” said Tremblay.
The meet begins Friday and runs through Sunday.
